Who gets told
Your people, on the channel they actually read.
Add the people who care — a partner, a parent, the CFI who wants to know the student got home. They get an SMS or an email when you depart, when you land, and if you are running later than planned. They do not need an account, they do not need the app, and they never see anything about the flight beyond the fact of it.
Consent
Nobody is signed up to be texted by you.
SMS is double opt-in: the person you add confirms for themselves before a single message goes out, and they can stop at any time without asking you. It is the law and it is also the only version of this that is not rude. Our opt-in terms say exactly what they are agreeing to.
What this is not
This is peace of mind, not search and rescue.
Flight watch tells the people on the ground what is happening. It does not replace a flight plan, it does not replace flight following, and it is not an alerting service in the ATC sense — file and open exactly as you would have. What it replaces is the text message you meant to send from the run-up and forgot.
Afterwards
The flight is already logged by the time you're in the car.
The same track that told your family you were down becomes the debrief: the route on a map, the approaches flown, and a record that fills in your currency without you typing it. Nothing to remember at the end of a long day, which is precisely when logbooks stop getting written.
